Advocates for Youth on Presidential Inauguration and Road Ahead

Today, on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Donald J. Trump will become the 47th president of the United States.

In response, Deb Hauser, President of the national youth reproductive and sexual health organization Advocates for Youth, issued the following statement:

“Today’s presidential inauguration is a bleak moment for young people across the country fighting for reproductive rights, racial justice, and bodily autonomy.

While today marks the start of a new, dangerous presidential administration, it is also an opportunity to recommit, despite the odds, to a vision of the United States in which every young person has equal unfettered access to the reproductive and sexual health information and services they need – no matter their income, age, location or political party.

Today we also celebrate the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and uplift the many young people working to honor his legacy and realize his vision.

Advocates for Youth remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting young people and their ability to organize against political extremism and make informed decisions about their body and their future – regardless of who occupies the Oval Office.”
