Statement on the Abortion Justice Act
Advocates for Youth applauds the introduction of the Abortion Justice Act, a groundbreaking piece of legislation that charts a policy path forward, where abortion care is available, affordable, and accessible. The Abortion Justice Act was introduced today by Representative Ayanna Pressley and comes after years of dedication from reproductive health, rights, and justice organizations, BIPOC communities, and communities on the ground organizing to ensure that abortion justice belongs in federal law..
The Abortion Justice Act centers those who are most impacted by abortion restrictions and bans, including Black, Indigenous, Asian, Latinx, young people, LGBTQ+ people, immigrants, disabled, and gender nonconforming people.
This groundbreaking legislation creates a roadmap to ensure that abortion care is available without hurdles or stigma for people of color working to make ends meet, young people, LGBTQ, and gender nonconforming people – and is accessible in the communities where we live. All people, including young people, deserve more support, not more barriers, when it comes to accessing the care they need.
Advocates for Youth welcomes the introduction of the Abortion Justice Act and is proud to work alongside Representative Ayanna Pressley, our organizational partners, and our youth abortion storytellers and activists who are leading the fight to ensure everyone has access to the abortion care they need.
