Mourning the Casualties of White Supremacy
We are heartbroken at the mass shootings of Muslims at Al Noor Mosque and the Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch, New Zealand. We mourn the loss of these souls deeply.
The members of the Muslim Youth Leadership Council at Advocates for Youth face and combat Islamophobia every day. They and millions like them are forced to live in a culture of hate which continues churning poisonous rhetoric and making our world unsafe.
We condemn the violent actions of the killer, and the toxic culture that empowered white supremacist violence at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, at Tree of Life synagogue, and in countless other instances. We must stop the radicalization of young white men that is enabled by tech billionaires who care more about their bottom lines than human life, and politicians who pander to extremists for votes. We must work alongside those who are leading efforts to end white supremacy and gun violence. Young people are working for a time when everyone can live free from violence and fear.
