Advocates for Youth Calls on Congress to Save HIV Funding
With a funding deadline looming, Advocates for Youth urgently calls on Congress to save HIV funding. House Republicans proposed massive cuts totalling $767 million to federal HIV/AIDS funding that sustains Ryan White Program, the Minority AIDS Initiative, and the Ending the HIV Epidemic (EHE) Initiative, which includes a proposed national PrEP program. These programs have provided access to various prevention resources, treatment options, and social and mental health support for people living with HIV.Â
We urge Congress to pass funding for HIV programs for the bipartisan Senate FY24 Labor, Health, and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies (LHHS) appropriation bill without harmful policy riders that would limit or prevent delivery of these and other critical health services. This call is critical. For decades, HIV advocates and policymakers have worked together to educate and provide innovative programs to end the HIV epidemic. Young people deserve access to prevention, education, treatment, and culturally inclusive HIV services.
