Statement on the Keeping Girls in School Act

Advocates for Youth applauds the introduction of the Keeping Girls in School Act, which would ensure that the U.S. Government does its part by helping to address the unique barriers that are keeping more than 130 million adolescent girls out of school globally. Introduced by Senator Jeanne Shaheen, the bill would create an Adolescent Girls Challenge Fund to implement innovative programs to ensure that adolescent girls enroll in and succeed in school. Additionally, it would require the development of a U.S. Global Strategy to Empower Adolescent Girls and authorize U.S. assistance to actually address the unique specific barriers that adolescent girls face.

Young people, both domestically and globally, have the right to lead healthy lives. That means that all youth, including adolescent girls in the Global South, need to have access to education and resources in order to reach their full potential.. Advocates for Youth joins over 50 international non-profit, faith-based, and service delivery organizations to support and endorse this important piece of legislation.
