Advocates for Youth applauds the Biden Administration’s proposed changes to Title X, the nation’s federal family planning program designed to provide affordable reproductive health services to those in need, including youth and young adults. The Trump Administration effectively dismantled the program, forcing a “gag rule” that prevents participating health care providers from discussing abortion with their patients and therefore removing the  guarantee that patients at Title X clinics receive full and accurate information about their reproductive and sexual health. These changes occurred over the objections of hundreds of thousands of health care professionals, young people, and activists working to ensure abortion access. 

President Biden’s proposed new rule removes the gag rule and works to strengthen, rather than undermine, Title X. 

“Young people rely on Title X to receive affordable, confidential health care,” said Debra Hauser, President of Advocates for Youth. “We’re glad to see the Biden Administration taking steps toward ensuring equity and reducing health care disparities.”
