Innovative Sex Education Series Announces Grantees of First Global Impact Awards

AMAZE.org announces awards totaling 396,000 USD that will support six organizations in delivering AMAZE animated videos to their region and increase access to free sexual health information and resources

Washington, D.C. – AMAZE.org, a project which harnesses the power of digital media to provide young adolescents around the globe with free access to medically accurate, age-appropriate, affirming, and honest sex education, today announced six as the recipients of 328,000 USD in Global Impact Awards to support the organizations as they bring AMAZE to their region. 

The Global Impact Awards support organizations in adapting, developing new, and disseminating AMAZE videos — animated sex education videos that teach kids about puberty, healthy relationships, development, sexuality, and how to prevent STIs, including HIV, unintended pregnancy, and sexual violence.  AMAZE gathers a committee of experts to evaluate Global Impact applicants, selects and recommends awards (which can be given directly or through AMAZE as a conduit), assists partners during their grant period, and monitors and assesses the grantees for future grant consideration. 

One hundred eleven organizations applied for the Global Impact Awards: including 40 based in Africa; 20 in Asia; 10 in Europe; 35 in Latin America and the Carribean; 4 in the Middle East; and 2 in the Pacific region.  The heavy interest from around the world is a clear indication that the need for better sex education resources in the digital space is strong. AMAZE anticipates a second round of funding in early 2022.    

With such a strong field of applicants, determining the winners was no easy task. AMAZE was guided by a strong advisory committee consisting of Erin Kennedy of ChildFund International, Tamara Kreinin of the The David and Lucile Packard Foundation, Dr. Rebecka Lundgren of the University of California San Diego, Kristi Mahoney of the WestWind Foundation, and Dr. Venkatraman Chandra-Mouli of the World Health Organization.

AMAZE was created by Advocates for Youth, Answer, and Youth Tech Health and since its launch, videos have been used in 180 countries. The AMAZE team works to expand AMAZE’s reach internationally through partnerships with youth-led organizations, non-governmental organizations, multilateral agencies, and Ministries of Education and Health around the world to translate, adapt, and create new AMAZE videos.  Amaze videos for young adolescents have over 50 Million views worldwide, and with this global impact awards program we expect it to increase rapidly.

We’re thrilled to welcome them to the AMAZE family.”

“We are beyond excited to begin this project because we didn’t have materials like these with such value, humor, and educational purpose in Latvian. After our first translated videos and the feedback that we got from all the children and young adults, we could really see how much they needed something like this. And we are also immensely excited to translate the videos in Russian so that even more youngsters would be able to watch and consume the videos in their first language,” says Luīze Laura Bērziņa from Papardes zieds (Latvia Association for Family Planning and Sexual Health).

Serie animada de Educación Integral en Sexualidad anuncia beneficiarios de la convocatoria Global Impact Awards

AMAZE.org anuncia ganadores de la convocatoria que recibirán un total de  $396,000 USD que apoyará a  6 organizaciones en traer a AMAZE a sus regiones, aumentando el acceso a información y recursos gratuitos sobre salud sexual y reproductiva. 

 

Washington, D.C. – AMAZE.org, un proyecto dedicado a brindar acceso a educación integral en sexualidad (EIS) en un formato atractivo y apropiado para jóvenes, hoy se complace en anunciar que seis organizaciones serán otorgadas 396,000 como parte del programa Global Impact Awards, que servirá para apoyar la expansión de AMAZE en sus regiones. 

 

Los Global Impact Awards apoyarán a estas organizaciones en la adaptación, desarrollo y difusión de videos de AMAZE- una serie animada de videos de EIS cubriendo temas como la pubertad, las relaciones saludables, el desarrollo, la sexualidad, las ITS, el VIH, el embarazo y la reproducción y la violencia sexual. AMAZE reunió un comité de expertos para evaluar las propuestas de la convocatoria, identificar y recomendar a los ganadores (quienes recibirán fondos directa o indirectamente a través de AMAZE). Asimismo, AMAZE asistirá, supervisará y evaluará los proyectos ganadores durante el periodo de concesión teniendo en cuenta sus resultados para oportunidades a futuro. 

 

Ciento once organizaciones participaron en la convocatoria: 40 de ellas en África; 20 en Asia; 10 en Europa; 35 en América Latina y el Caribe; 4 en el Medio Oriente; y 2 en la región del Pacífico. El amplio interés en AMAZE a nivel global muestra la necesidad por recursos de educación integral en sexualidad dentro de un espacio digital ya fortalecido. AMAZE anticipa que se abrirá una segunda ronda de financiación a comienzos del 2022.  

Teniendo en cuenta el gran volumen de propuestas recibidas, el proceso de selección no ha sido tarea sencilla. AMAZE contó con el apoyo de un comité asesor compuesto por Erin Kennedy, Tamara Kreinin, Dr. Rebecka Lundgren, Kristi Miller, y Dr. Venkatraman Chandra-Mouli – expertos en el área de salud sexual y reproductiva, quienes evaluaron cuidadosamente las solicitudes. 

AMAZE fue creado por Advocates for Youth, Answer y Youth Tech Health, y desde su lanzamiento, los vídeos de AMAZE han sido adaptados para uso en más de 180 países. El equipo de AMAZE trabaja para expandir el alcance de AMAZE a nivel internacional a través de asociaciones con organizaciones lideradas por jóvenes, organizaciones no gubernamentales, agencias multilaterales y Ministerios de Educación y Salud para traducir, doblar, adaptar y crear nuevos videos de AMAZE. Los videos de AMAZE cuentan con más de 50 millones de visualizaciones, y con el programa de Global Impact anticipamos que nuestro alcance continuará creciendo.

“Estamos más que emocionados por comenzar este proyecto ya que no contamos con recursos como estos con tanto valor, humor y propósito educativo en nuestro idioma. Después de nuestros primeros videos doblados y los comentarios que recibimos por parte de los niños y jóvenes, pudimos ver cuánto necesitaban algo como esto. Y también estamos inmensamente emocionados de traducir los videos al ruso para que incluso más jóvenes puedan visualizar los videos en su lengua natal”, dice Luīze Laura Bērziņa de Papardes zieds (Asociación de Letonia para la Planificación Familiar y la Salud Sexual).
