WHPA is an important step from Congress that would prohibit states from imposing onerous restrictions, much like the bills we're seeing passed all across the nation, including the recently-enacted SB8 in Texas, the most restrictive abortion law in the country. 

Advocates for Youth commends the Biden administration for taking essential legal action to protect the right to abortion access for all Texans, including low-income, LGBTQ+, and BIPOC young people who are directly impacted by the dangerous restrictions set forth in SB 8.

This bill creates an atmosphere of violence and fear around abortion decisions. Instead of making a decision for themselves and their families, people who need abortions are forced to contend with secrecy, worry, and the idea of endangering their loved ones and even their doctors.

The first priority of education should be to put young people’s needs first - and that includes transgender young people. Why have these states chosen to abandon that mission? What reason could be more compelling than our need to protect young people’s safety?
