We were both “partying”. I’m an Alcoholic, now in Recovery. I feel he was also. When I became pregnant, I knew my child could not survive our alcohol abuse without injury. I worked in a Psychiatric Hospital & worked with adults with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. They came to us after violently or sexually acting out in the Community. Their concept of language was limited, they were physically deformed. Sometimes they didn’t know their parents. I could not bring this child to term. Planned Parenthood provided me an aborion, at a rate I could afford without shaming me more than I shamed myself. They provided me with Birth Control to assure the situation wouldn’t happen again. That was 1979. I have been Sober for 31 years. I would make the same decision again under the same circumstances. It was the right thing to do!
