Over the past five years, opponents of sexual health have pushed an anti-condom agenda designed to undermine public confidence in condom use. Some of the activities include:
- Spending over 1.5 billion dollars on abstinence-only-until-marriage programs that, by law, cannot give information about the health benefits of condoms in protecting against pregnancy and STIs, including HIV.
- Removing information about the health benefits of condoms from the Web sites of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Agency for International Development (USAID).
- Requiring that a significant portion of U.S. support for preventing HIV/AIDS in Africa go to abstinence programs that restrict information about condoms.
- Requesting the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) to impose mandatory labeling of condom packages that emphasize the “limitations” of condoms.
