The ACLU, Advocates for Youth, Answer, Planned Parenthood Federation of America and SIECUS are excited to announce that we are again partnering to host a national gathering of state sex education advocates and education professionals, State Summit VII, to be held on June 4 – 6^th, 2013, in Washington, DC.

The seventh annual State Summit will focus on building strategic alliances between the key stakeholders needed to advance our goals for comprehensive sex education. Throughout the State Summit, state and national partners will explore ways to capitalize on recent policy changes and upcoming opportunities, address potential challenges, implement effective sex education programs, and ensure ongoing support for comprehensive sexuality education at the federal, state, and local levels.

We will do this by creating a forum for state sex education advocates and allies to:

• share policy developments and lessons learned;
• provide input into the direction of the national sex education strategy;
• work to develop cohesive strategies, tactics and messaging to advance shared sex education goals;
• discuss how various policy approaches impact sex education implementation, sustainability and accountability;
• and establish ongoing collaborations to advance comprehensive sexuality education.

REQUEST FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS

Proposals due: 5:00pm (EST) December 5, 2012

All workshop proposals should be engaging and dynamic for a diverse audience, including sex education policy advocates and education professionals from across the country. Proposals that discuss collaboration across communities and movements are encouraged. We invite you to update us on your current work to advance comprehensive sex education, the passion that fuels your vision for sex education, and your expertise and experiences that will benefit your colleagues at our conference this spring.

Proposal type: Interactive workshops are 90 minutes long and include facilitators who bring diverse perspectives to the topic at hand. Workshops should provide activities that allow the audience to dive deeply into the subject matter. We are interested in proposals that address themes of sex education implementation, creating policy change, exploring curricula, and community mobilization, in particular:

• advancing policy in a difficult climate,
• working with youth,
• engaging parents
• sustaining comprehensive sex education programs after grant periods wind down,
• and ensuring that sex education meets the standards set by state and local policy.
