Feature: Burning Questions - Peer HIV Education Strategies for Youth
By Isaiah Webster III
National Youth Advocacy Coalition - 2007
Most people I've met in their late 20s or 30s possess a great deal of knowledge about HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Moreover, even if they don't know that much about the subject, they were afforded many opportunities to learn, and at a minimum, have developed an understanding of how the virus is and is not spread. Most importantly, many people in that age group probably know at least one person who has died of complications of AIDS, and in some cases, many people.
Many of today's youth (ages 13-24) have no such up-close and personal knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Though their history books are filled with names and faces of Ryan White, Rock Hudson and Earvin "Magic" Johnson, they may never truly be able to understand the way in which these figures transformed how Americans thought about AIDS.

Feature: Get Up, Stand Up
By Nicole
Intern, Advocates for Youth
This article is an urgent call to black women to begin to take the steps necessary to see that HIV/AIDS no longer ravages our community. HIV is currently tearing through the black community at an alarming rate, and young African American women are the hardest hit. Waiting for others to correct this problem just isn't working. If we want to see HIV/AIDS eliminated, we have to start with prevention. Talk about HIV, get tested, and if you are sexually active use a condom every time you have sex.
